The very process of colouring can help your child’s development of their motor skills. Holding the pencil and learning to grip correctly for control while colouring helps develop their little hand muscles and also aids with coordination in grip and muscle strength required for other activities. As the colouring gets neater, the more they are learning this skill.
Coloring can help children learn the skill of patience. It allows them to be relaxed and comfortable while creating a piece of art. Through coloring, children can benefit from processing their feelings, frustrations and emotions. When children use colors, they learn to be more relaxed and comfortable. Completing a coloring sheet gives children a sense of accomplishment, which builds their self-esteem. Coloring regularly and completing projects can boost children’s sense of accomplishment and pride in themselves.
This isn’t an esoteric theory; we’ve seen the results firsthand at Adventure to Fitness. Our primary focus has always been animated videos that take kids on adventures around the world or throughout history. During the shows, we get kids moving and introduce educational material that’s relevant to the particular episode. As we started talked with the thousands of teachers using our program, we noticed that many were following our videos with coloring or drawing to give kids a break after the physical activity, while reinforcing the learning from a particular episode.
